This year we, Columbans, are celebrating 90 years of mission here in the Philippines. The first Columban priest to arrive in Manila on May 30, 1919 was Fr. Michael Cuddigan from Ireland. Joy and gratitude filled the air at Our Lady of Remedies Parish,Malate, Manila, as we celebrated this wondrous occasion on June 3, 2019.

This year, we have the great privilege of celebrating 90 years of Columban Mission in the Philippines. On May 30, 1929 the first Columban priest to be assigned in the Philippines, Fr. Michael Cuddigan, arrived in Our Lady of Remedies Parish, Malate, Manila from Ireland.

As we come to the end of 2018, we prepare for the joyous season of Christmas. We do so with great gratitude to God in our hearts. Like the Blessed Virgin Mary, we can look back at all the blessings we have received this year and we can truly say: “The Almighty has done great things for me” [Lk: 1:49]. We should thank God, Who has given us everything, for all the blessings each of us has received in 2018.

This year we are celebrating 100 years of the Missionary Society of Saint Columban. 100 years ago in Ireland, the first group of seminarians began their training to be missionaries of the Good News in China. They knew that it would not be easy.
